Bruns-Gutzwiller is a closely held corporation between five principals. The corporation was the result of a merger of Bruns Brothers Masonry and the W.A. Gutzwiller Company in 1970. The new company operated under the W.A. Gutzwiller name for the first two years.
Bruns Brothers Masonry was founded by Ralph, Dale, Don, and Robert Bruns in 1956 and was the foremost masonry contractor in southeastern Indiana. The W.A. Gutzwiller Company was founded in 1920 by William A. Gutzwiller and performed general construction work across southern Indiana.
The 1970 merger was conducted by Ralph, Dale, Don, and Robert Bruns from Bruns Brothers and William R. Gutzwiller and Doris Gutzwiller from W.A. Gutzwiller Co. The first major project built by the newly formed company was the National Guard Armory in Shelbyville, Indiana.
A generation has passed and Bruns-Gutzwiller remains a vibrant, aggressive company. Dale Bruns, Chairman and William Gutzwiller, Secretary remain from the pre-merge years. They are also joined on the corporate board by Dale's three sons: Thomas, James, and Timothy, who joined the company in 1988-89. Together, they strive to make sure that Bruns-Gutzwiller remains loyal to the tenants that enabled them to prosper since 1920.
